Barcelona Have Not Agreed To Swap Ansu Fati For Wolves Midfielder Plus Cash

There have been speculations that Barcelona could be close to accepting an offer of €30 million plus Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers for struggling forward Ansu Fati.

But, according to Fabrizio Romano, there is nothing advanced on that front and the Blaugrana have not agreed to any sort of operation with the Premier League club involving Neves and some cash for Fati.

Earlier this month, superagent Jorge Mendes was in Barcelona and met with Fati, his family as well as Barcelona president Joan Laporta. The 20-year-old’s difficult situation and his future were understood to be discussed during these meetings.

Soon after that, reports emerged claiming that Mendes had offered Barça the opportunity of swapping Fati for Ruben Neves plus cash.

Neves is a midfielder that has been long-linked with the Blaugrana amidst their search for a replacement for club captain Sergio Busquets.

And even though Xavi and his coaching staff are said to be not convinced by the Portuguese international, it was being claimed that president Joan Laporta could be sold on such an idea as it could help the club with Financial Fair Play.

But, according to Romano, there is nothing to the rumours of Barcelona considering the possibility of accepting such an offer even though Mendes is understood to have proposed the player-plus-cash deal.

For starters, Fati remains firm on his stance of wanting to stay at Barcelona and turn things around. Furthermore, Xavi does not want Neves in the squad to reinforce the defensive midfield position and has his eyes on Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.

So, the possibility of a player-plus-cash deal involving Neves in exchange for Fati does not seem likely to happen this summer. As for the forward, his camp are considering an exit, but the player remains keen on staying at the club.
