Barcelona Offered The Chance To Sign Marco Asensio On A Free Transfer

Marco Asensio is one of many Real Madrid players facing an uncertain future at Santiago Bernabeu as the club brace itself for a summer of change.

The attacker’s current contract at the Bernabeu expires at the end of the season, leading to speculations over his future. Real Madrid have made efforts to renew his contract, but there has been no agreement reached, and the player is unhappy with his game time.

In light of this uncertainty, Gerard Romero has dropped another bombshell report, suggesting that the Real Madrid winger has been offered to arch-rivals FC Barcelona by his agent Jorge Mendes.

It is no secret that Mendes shares a healthy relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta. That relationship could come in handy for Barça, who have been handed the opportunity to sign Asensio on a free transfer in the coming summer.

With Ansu Fati facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, coupled with Ferran Torres’ inconsistent form, Barcelona could be in the market for a new attacker at the end of the season.

That is where Asensio could prove to be an interesting buy. The Spaniard offers abundant experience at the highest level of football while his versatility could prove to be handy for coach Xavi Hernandez.

Asensio’s status as a free agent also bodes well for a Barcelona side, who are not in a position to spend a fortune in the coming summer. Signing the Spaniard on a free transfer, therefore, could them save a chunk of the outlay, which in turn, could be used on bringing in other players.

However, Barcelona’s pursuit of Asensio is far from done and dusted. Given the player’s resurgence, Real Madrid are expected to make one last push to keep hold of the Spaniard.

Furthermore, it has also been reported that the Blaugrana have other priorities in the market at the moment even though they like Asensio a lot. So, only time will tell if they do end up bringing the Real Madrid ace to Camp Nou in the summer.
