Barcelona Suffer Title Hangover, Losing At Home With Sociedad

Barcelona appear have suffered from a title hangover, losing at home to top-four hopefuls Real Sociedad.

The newly crowned La Liga champions were slow out of the gate, despite having a raucous crowd of nearly 100,000 behind them.

The visitors from the Basque country quickly took advantage of the slow-starting home side, as Mikel Merino stabbed home from close range inside five minutes to stun the home crowd.

While Barça clawed their way back into the game, creating a flurry of chances to pull themselves level, but the Blaugrana appeared to leave the shooting boots at home on the night.

Their hopes of a turnaround were quelled in the last 20 minutes by Alexander Sørloth who capped off a superb team move to double Sociedad’s lead.

While Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for the hosts in the dying minutes, it wouldn’t be enough as Sociedad held on to collect all three points and all but confirm their place in the top-four.
