Barcelona Will Remain Open To Offers For Frenkie De Jong

Barcelona will remain open to offers for midfield mainstay Frenkie de Jong in the summer, despite the Netherlands international’s top-notch recent performances.

It is not a top secret that Barça’s finances are not in the best of situation at the moment and the club need to generate revenue and cut down their wage bill in order to achieve Financial Fair Play for the summer.

La Liga are understood to have informed the Blaugrana that they need to reduce their salaries by at least €200 million before next season. So, player sales will be seen as a strategy to achieve that target.

Recent reports had suggested that de Jong would not be considered for any cost-cutting operations in the summer owing to his recent rise in stature.

Not only has he become a key member of Xavi’s plans, Frenkie de Jong is also seen as a possible option for the pivot midfield position in case Sergio Busquets decides not to renew his contract and leaves in the summer.

However, as per Depredict, sources within the club admit that de Jong’s wages continue to be very high and there is very little that they can do about it.

The report adds that owing to his performances, age, potential, and capabilities, coupled with Busquets’ situation, Barcelona know that they should keep hold of de Jong beyond the summer.

However, at the same time, the club will not close the door on any offers de Jong as long as they are suitable for all parties.

Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for the Dutchman, with Erik ten Hag understood to be open to rekindling his interest in the midfielder.

But, convincing de Jong to consider an exit would be extremely hard, as was seen in the last summer window.
