Barcelona Youngster Not Called Up For Rayo Vallecano Clash Due To A Minor Knock

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez announced the squad list for the upcoming game against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night.

The names of Ousmane Dembele and Andreas Christensen were once again missing, although Xavi confirmed that the pair will be available later this week against Real Betis.

Sergio Busquets (suspension) and Sergi Roberto (injury) were also absent from the list while Lamine Yamal received a call-up once again.

But another name that was absent but went somewhere under the radar is that of youngster Angel Alarcon. The forward has been a regular fixture in the first-team squad lists of late, with Xavi keeping him around as a backup option.

However, Alarcon is not part of the squad list for the game against Rayo Vallecano, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the youngster is missing out due to a minor training injury he sustained.

The report claims that Alarcon suffered a small muscle contraction in training yesterday and the medical staff decided not to risk him for the trip to Vallecas tomorrow as they believe there is enough depth in the attacking unit, especially with Yamal’s inclusion.

Alarcon was named in the squad for the Atletico Madrid clash this past Sunday, after he featured for the youth team on Saturday. However, he was an unused substitute against the Rojiblancos, while he completely misses out against Rayo.

Alarcon made his first-team debut for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey clash against AD Ceuta. Since then, he has gone on to make four more appearances across competitions but is yet to score or assist a goal.

The 18-year-old was even handed a new contract by the club recently, tying him down until the summer of 2025.
