FERDINAND OMURWA OMANYALA AS AN AFRICA RECORD HOLDER SETS A NEW 100m RECORD IN ITALY

Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala set a new course record at the Athletics Meeting at Zecchini Stadium in Italy after running 10.11 seconds in the 100 metres race .

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala has set a new record. Omanyala ran a time of 10.11 seconds in the 100 metres race at the International Castiglione Athletic Meeting at Zecchini Stadium in Grosseto, Italy to set a new course record.

He completed the 100m to smash the previous course record of 10.31 seconds set by the reigning Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs. Omanyala completed a double at the races by also winning the 200 metres races.

The 26-year old then used a time of 20.50 seconds to win the 200 metres races and cap off a wonderful weekend in Italy.

Speaking to Capital Sports after the races, Omanyala was ecstatic about his performance.

It was a great outing and definitely two competitive races. Winning a double on foreign soil definitely feels great and this is another morale-boosting performance.

This is great build-up for me definitely heading in to the African Championships where I want to go and win three titles

He is preparing for the African Athletics Championships next month. He intends to complete a triple overhaul by winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and the 4 by 100 metres races.

After Italy, Omanyala heads to Germany and then to the Czech Republic where he is set to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike. He will face his childhood hero Yohan Blake at the Czech Games.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported that celebrated Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech had taken a major dig at the government following Kenya’s disqualification from the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Harambee Stars were kicked out of the race to qualify for next year’s AFCON as the ban by the world governing body of football FIFA, is still in place.
