GHANAIAN PLAYER WHO DEPICTED THE BEAST IN HIM TO HEADBUTT REFEREE RENDERS UNQUALIFIED APOLOGY

Augustine Okrah has expressed a heartfelt apology in a remorseful letter following his unsportsmanlike behaviour in the finals of the MTN FA Cup

Bechem United talisman Augustine Okrah has rendered an unqualified apology following his ‘moment of madness’ during the finals of the 2021-22 MTN FA Cup finals, last Sunday. Okrah, one of the best performing players in the Ghanaian top-flight, was billed to star in the cup final.

However, what was supposed to be a crowning moment for the diminutive attacker quickly turned into a moment of shame, when he lost his cool to headbutt the assistant referee.

His act of indiscipline did not cost Bechem to play over 25 minutes of the second half with ten men but more importantly the MTN FA Cup, which was won by Hearts of Oak.

Realizing and admitting his shortfall, the 28-year-old player, who received a call-up to the Black Stars for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, apologized for his unsportsmanlike behaviour in a touching letter.

“I tender an unconditional apology for the unethical behaviour that caused my early exit from the FA Cup final between Hearts of Oak and Bechem United t the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday,” Okrah said in a statement as quoted by GHANAsoccernet.

“I am extremely sorry and remorseful for the harm this have caused including hurting sentiments. I am ashamed of myself for having behaved in such a manner.”

“To [Bechem United owner] Mr Kingsley Owusu, the patrons, the management, My indefatigable teammates, the entire fans (Hunters), friends of Bechem United, the good people of Ahafo Region and the entire sporting fraternity please forgive me for this one last time. I m sorry for my behaviour and apologise from the core of my heart.”
