Injury Update: Barcelona Centre-Back Not Fit To Start Against Real Madrid

In a major development, Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has not recovered sufficiently from his ankle discomfort and is unlikely to start tonight against Real Madrid, claims RAC1.

Christensen suffered a knock on his ankle during training on Wednesday due to which he participated in the session for just 15 minutes.

Immediately after it was reported that the 26-year-old was a doubt for the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, soon after, reports emerged claiming that Christensen was intent on playing against Real Madrid and that, in principle, he was in line to start in the semi-final.

But, as per the latest developments, Christensen has not recovered sufficiently from his ankle issue and as a result, he is unlikely to start tonight at the Bernabeu.

That does not, however, mean the Danish international is ruled out of the contest.

But, Christensen’s potential absence will come as a blow for Barcelona, given that he has been one of the club’s most solid and consistent performers this season.

If he is not fit to start, Xavi Hernandez could turn to Eric Garcia or Marcos Alonso to partner Jules Kounde at the heart of the defence, with Ronald Araujo expected to start as the right-back to tackle the threat of Vinicius Jr.
