Javier Tebas: Lionel Messi’s Return To Barcelona Won’t Be Easy

La Liga president Javier Tebas has once again spoken publicly about the situation at FC Barcelona and the possible arrival of Lionel Messi at the Catalan club this summer.

The Argentine forward, whose contract with PSG ends on 30 June, is Barça’s main target this summer.

In an interview with RMC, he said, in quotes reported by Mundo Deportivo: “As of today Messi’s return to Barça looks quite difficult. What salary would Messi have? Barça is not like PSG who have a petrol tap and money for big salaries.”

Tebas added: “We have to see how that evolves but several conditions would have to be met. You have to reduce the wage bill to be able to register players. It’s like the metro, let people get off so others can get on. People still have to get off the metro.”

Despite the fact that Messi will turn 36 on 24 June, the Argentina international is clear that he wants to continue competing at the highest level, and he will wait to weigh up the offers coming his way before he makes a final decision on his next move.

According to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo, PSG are still trying to convince Messi to stay in Paris for another season.

On the Negreira case

On the Negreira case, he said: “The Negreira affair is the most serious in Spanish football. That a club pays the vice-president of referees for 18 years, whatever the objective, is very serious. Unfortunately on a sporting level, things are time-barred, so we can’t do anything about it, but on a criminal level it has been prosecuted”.
