Julen Lopetegui Lauds Sergio Busquets: “Best Spanish Midfielder Ever”

Sergio Busquets has received widespread adulation from the footballing world after he confirmed his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

The veteran has opted not to renew his contract at Camp Nou and will embark on a new adventure elsewhere. Recent reports claim he is favouring a move to the United States, with Inter Miami emerging as an appealing destination.

Shortly after the announcement of his impending exit, Busquets received a heartfelt message from Jordi Alba, who praised the midfielder for sticking around at Camp Nou for years.

Lionel Messi, too, wrote a message to the Barcelona veteran, with the Argentine international acknowledging his time together with Busquets at Barça.

Now, even Julen Lopetegui has joined the trend, lauding Sergio Busquets in a recent media interaction. The former Real Madrid coach even went on to hail him as the best Spanish midfielder in the history.

“He is a unique player. On the pitch, he is a player well above the average in terms of intelligence. For me, he has been the best midfielder in the history of Spanish football,” he said (h/t El Larguero).

Sergio Busquets has indeed created history at Barcelona, with over 700 competitive appearances. Only Xavi and Lionel Messi has featured more for the club. The player has also won several accolades including three Champions League titles, the FIFA World Cup and eight La Liga titles.

Busquets will be on the verge of securing his ninth crown in Spanish football for Barcelona as the Catalans look to register a win against Espanyol this Sunday, which will guarantee the title. The club are currently leading the table by a whopping 13-point margin.
