Lionel Messi Barcelona Return Still Unlikely Due To La Liga

A return to Barcelona for Lionel Messi is still unlikely at this point, according to Mundo Deportivo. La Liga’s financial policies mean it is almost impossible.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has set stringent financial rules for clubs in the Spanish top flight. He believes it will help them live within their means.

It also means a deal for Messi to return to Spotify Camp Nou is almost impossible.

According to the reports, even if the player reduces his salary drastically, La Liga will still oppose the deal, comparing it to his mega-deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

Talks about Messi leaving the Parisian club have intensified following their exit from the Champions League in the round of 16.

Bayern Munich knocked Les Parisiens out of the tournament, beating them in both legs. PSG want to break down their squad and rebuild it.

PSG sporting adviser Luis Campos is leading the squad reconstruction that could bring the departure of Messi. The Argentine was close to staying in France months ago, but talks have stalled with his contract expiring this summer.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed he recently met with Messi’s agent and father, Jorge Messi. Although, Laporta said the meeting was to plan a tribute to the player for his feat in Qatar.

It is currently unclear what Messi’s next career move will be. At the moment, he is closer to a PSG exit than he is to a stay.

La Liga’s much-maligned policies are blocking the Barcelona return. Tebas has been a fierce critic of the Premier League and their spending power, accusing them of destabilising the transfer market.

He has also directed criticism at Messi’s current club, PSG. He is Barcelona’s main opposition.

Another option for Messi is a move to Inter Miami. The Major League Soccer (MLS) club, owned by David Beckham, has been signalling interest in him, and after conquering Europe, he could consider the move to North America.
