Man United And Arsenal Enquire About RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan

After The Guardian’s Ed Aarons revealed Arsenal’s “strong interest” in Red Bull Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan (23), Foot Mercato are now reporting that Manchester United have also enquired about the France U21 international’s availability.

The Frenchman has featured 34 times for the Bundesliga side in all competitions this season, scoring three times and registering an impressive eight assists.

Simakan did sign a contract extension with Red Bull Leipzig in December, which ties him to the German club until 2027, however, just months after the signing of that contract, he could be leaving, should reports on both sides of the Channel be believed. Simakan is a versatile defender, who can play both at right-back, but also at centre-back.

Arsenal have enquired about Simakan, according to Foot Mercato. Should he make a move to the Emirates Stadium, he would link up with compatriot William Saliba, who is reportedly out until the end of the season.

However, the Gunners aren’t the only interested party, as Manchester United have also made an enquiry.

The Red Devils, whose ownership situation is yet to be resolved, are clearly in the market for a right-sided defender this summer, as evidenced by their reported interest in AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi.

Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna added that “many English clubs” are interested in bringing Simakan to the Premier League.
