Man United Hold ‘Serious’ Interest In Signing Chelsea Midfielder

Manchester United are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer market, with Erik ten Hag set to initiate phase two of his rebuild of the club.

Ten Hag is likely to oversee wholesale changes of personnel and several first-team players are expected to depart the club, with many of them approaching the end of their contracts.

Six first-team players left the club on free transfers last season and now, a number of stars have just 12 months remaining on their current deals.

In terms of incomings, United are likely to prioritise a move for a striker whilst Ten Hag could also be keen on signing a defender and a midfielder.

Marcel Sabitzer is expected to return to Bayern Munich following his six-month loan and Brighton duo Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo have been linked as potential replacements.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is another player that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and now there are reports confirming United’s interest.

According to The Athletic, Mount is attracting interest from several clubs but United are among those to hold ‘serious’ interest in signing the England star.

Mount has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and as things stand, it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will be committing his long-term future to the club.

Mount was promoted to the first team by Frank Lampard four years ago but he slipped down the pecking order under Graham Potter this season, leaving his place in the side uncertain.

Chelsea’s transfer business has added to that uncertainty and now, it appears that United could be readying a move for the 24-year-old.

SN’s verdict… Mount’s versatility is certainly something Ten Hag would be keen on adding but his favoured position is currently occupied by Bruno Fernandes, who is the favourite to be named club captain if Harry Maguire leaves the club.

It would not make complete sense to sign Mount if that’s the role Ten Hag has earmarked for him but his ability to operate in different areas may be appealing.
