Man United Injury Update: Antony, Luke Shaw And Marcus Rashford Latest News And Return Dates

Manchester United have been hit with two fresh injury concerns having only just welcomed Marcus Rashford back to fitness.

The striker returned from illness to come off the bench and score in a 4-1 thumping of Chelsea on Thursday, but both Antony and Luke Shaw had already been withdrawn to add to Erik ten Hag’s concerns.

The pair will now be assessed, but join Marcel Sabitzer, Lisandro Martinez, Phil Jones and Donny van de Beek on the absentee list.

Anthony

The forward was left in agony after a seemingly clean challenge by Trevoh Chalobah, eventually being stretchered from the pitch in tears after initially trying to carry on.

After the game, Ten Hag said the injury looked “serious” and Antony will undergo scans across the weekend to discover the extent of the damage. He is now a serious doubt for the FA Cup final on June 3.

Luke Shaw

Another casualty from the Chelsea win, the defender was withdrawn at half-time with a suspected back problem. Much like Antony, Shaw will be assessed over the weekend but is unlikely to be risked on Sunday against Fulham in any case, with the game now a dead-rubber.

An update can be expected early next week on the fitness of the left-back ahead of a huge FA Cup final.

Marcus Rashford

In more positive news, Rashford is again back after overcoming illness to score against Chelsea.

Rashford missed the win over Bournemouth after being struck down, having only recently shaken off an injury, so it was a frustrating setback.

But the forward looked sharp upon his return and should be fine for United’s final two game of the season

Lisandro Martinez

Argentine defender Martinez is on the recovery path after his season was ended by a broken metatarsal bone in his foot in April.

The injury required an operation, which he underwent with a return date scheduled for the start of pre-season.

Martinez was granted permission to fly back to his home city of Gualeguay in recent days, before returning to Manchester this week.

Marcel Sabitzer

A knee injury will keep Sabitzer out of the final games of the season, after the Austrian picked up the issue last week.

That could spell the end of his United career, with Ten Hag asked about the loanee’s future at the club for when his stay expires in the summer.

But the manager said such a matter was not his “focus” before the Bournemouth game.

Phil Jones

A chronic knee problem has meant Jones has now played his final game for the club.

United confirmed last week that the 31-year-old is due to leave in the summer when his contract expires.

Ten Hag also revealed that he only ever watched Jones train for 20 minutes during his first session in charge way back in June of last year.

Donny van de Beek

Van de Beek has made his return to training after suffering a season-ending injury in January.

Recent days saw the Dutchman work among the United squad following surgery on his knee. However, he is not expected to play a part in the final games of the campaign with pre-season his target.

He revealed: “I can do almost everything already, we are on a good road now, no pain anymore, so this is positive.”
