UEFA’s Technical Observer panel has selected its 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Team of the Season with some conspicuous names excluded.

As expected, players of Real Madrid and Liverpool – who made the finals of this season’s Champions League finals- dominate the Team of the Season.

Regular names such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Lionel Messi as well as Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were all exempted in this season’s Champions League Team of the Season.

Messi and Ronaldo were exempted as Benzema, and Vinicius Jr made the 2021-22 Champions League Team of the Season.

Real Madrid’s Benzema, Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Champions League finals man-of-the-match winner Thibaut Courtois all made the list while Liverpool’s Fabinho, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk got a mention.

Completing the Team of the Season are Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain and incoming Real Madrid hard-tackling defender Antonio Rudiger.

In a post on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, the official account of the Champions League announced its Team of the Season, which was selected by the UEFA Technical Observer panel.
