NFF HAD SACKED GERNOT ROHR AS SPORTS MINISTRY APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF JOSE PESEIRO

Jose Poseiro has been selected as the new Super Eagles coach following a meeting between the Nigeria Football Federation and the Sports Ministry.

The Nigeria Football Federation has finally reached an agreement with the Sports Ministry to name Jose Poseiro as the new permanent manager of the Super Eagles. The 62-year-old manager had previously been suggested by the NFF to take up the position but faced stiff opposition from the Sports Ministry over the procedure used by the local football body.

According to a report via Complete Sports, Poseiro has been picked by the NFF ahead of Frenchman Laurent Blanc, former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde, and former Netherlands defender Philip Cocu in the race for the position.

It is unclear if the NFF will announce Jose Poseiro in time to allow the Portuguese manager to take charge of the Super Eagles’ upcoming friendly games against Mexico and Ecuador.

The 62-year-contract old’s details, including paperwork, are nearly complete, and an announcement is expected soon by the Nigeria Football Federation.

NFF clear air on Gernot Rohr payment issue

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Football Federation has responded to FIFA’s order to pay former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr $377,879. According to Punch, NFF Director of Communication, Ademola Olajire disclosed that the federation had already agreed to pay the coach a major chunk of the cash before FIFA’s intervention

NFF release date when new Super Eagles coach will be announced

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed they will confirm the new coach of the Super Eagles on Thursday, May 12.

The 3-time Africa Cup of Nations champions has been without a coach since the NFF sacked Augustine Eguavoen and his technical crew after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick revealed the football body has been interviewing candidates for the vacant position and will confirm their candidate on Thursday.
