Orlando Pirates To Show Siyabonga Mpontshane The Exit Door

Siyabonga Mpontshane will be patiently waiting for Orlando Pirates’ decision regarding his future at the Buccaneers

Siyabonga Mpontshane’s future at Orlando Pirates is under threat according to the latest reports.

The veteran goalkeeper is likely to follow the likes of Happy Jele, Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Wayne Sandilands and Linda Mtambo who were all offloaded by the club in July.

Mpontshane’s contract comes to a close at the end of June and reports suggest the club are not looking at extending his contract.

The goalkeeper has made just six appearances this season with Sipho Chaine and Richard Ofori ahead of him the pecking order.

23-year-old Kopano Thuntsane is waiting in the wings as well meaning it won’t be smart business keeping a 36-year-old third choice goalkeeper around.

ORLANDO PIRATES YET TO INITIATE CONTRACT EXTENSION TALKS WITH VETERAN

According to local publication Kick-Off, the Buccaneers are yet to start any discussions with the goalkeeper.

It remains to be seen whether Mpontshane will actually receive a contract extension or not.

But judging from the lack of urgency from the club, and the player’s age, it’s rather unlikely that Mpontshane will remain part of the club beyond the end of the current season.

Deon Hotto has enjoyed good game time at the Buccaneers since joining them from Bidvest Wits.

In other news, Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with two Stellenbosch stars ahead of next season.

Last season, the Glamour Boys managed to lure both club captain Zitha Kwinika and star attacker Ashley Du Preez away from the Cape club.

And now, if reports are anything to go by, Junior Mandieta and Sibongiseni Mthethwa are both heavily linked with moves to Naturena.

In light of the recent trending reports, Steve Barker has commented on the potential departure of more of his key players!

Take a look at what the rather irritated Stellenbosch coach had to say below.

CHIEFS LINKED DUO GIVING BARKER SLEEPLESS NIGHTS?

“Personally as a coach I want us to be successful, I want us to start challenging higher up on the league table and having cup runs like we have (at the moment with Nedbank cup).” Barker said as quoted by Citizen.

“If we want to do that it is important that we start being the team that doesn’t lose its best players and we are able to retain our best players.

“So, if we are able to retain our young players that we have. Five of them are selected for the Under-23 preliminary squad.

“Plus players like Mendieta and Mthethwa, Iqraam Rayners, those are the experienced players that we brought and they have the quality.

“It is important for us as a football club to also be successful and that will be by retaining the players that we have.”

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has commented on Yusuf Maart’s Bafana Bafana omission after he was part of the preliminary squad.
