Ranked| Messi’s Great goals for Inter Miami
Lionel Messi has scored goals on top of goals ever since his move to Major League Soccer club Inter Miami last summer.
The ex-Barcelona and PSG figure made headlines when he opted to make the move to MLS, and he’s continued to bring new fans to the North American league with each passing week that he dons the Herons’ bright pink shirt.
The 37-year-old has recorded an impressive 25 goals in 29 appearances for the south Florida side and he’s just four goals from tying the team’s all-time top goalscorer which is none other than former Argentina teammate Gonzalo Higuain. Even though Messi has only been at Miami for one year, he’s managed to score some incredible goals for the Herons in that span.
Here are Messi’s five best goals so far as an Inter Miami player.
5. Atlanta United – Major League Soccer
Messi did just about all he could to inspire a comeback against Atlanta United earlier this season. His low-driven strike in the 62nd minute made things interesting in the final half-hour of action at Chase Stadium, with Josh Cohen unable to keep out the well-placed effort.
4. Sporting Kansas City – Major League Soccer
70,000-plus fans packed into Arrowhead Stadium earlier on in the 2024 MLS season to see Sporting Kansas City take on Inter Miami. Unfortunately for the hosts, Messi did what Messi does as he scored an incredible long-range strike to help Miami collect three points on the road. At least they were able to witness the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner score an otherworldly goal in person.
3. FC Dallas Vs Inter Miami
Miami’s Leagues Cup hopes were nearly dashed last summer in the round of 16 on the road against fellow MLS side FC Dallas. That is, until Messi stepped up late on to bag an outrageous free kick just before stoppage time to put the game back on level terms. The Herons went on to prevail on penalty kicks thanks to Messi’s unstoppable free kick.
2. Nashville SC – Leagues Cup final
The 2023 Leagues Cup final was one for the ages. Messi kicked things off in the first half with his curling effort from outside the box before Fabrice Picault levelled things up in the second 45. Messi more than played his part in helping Miami lift their first-ever title in club history with his pin-point accurate strike with his wand of a left foot.
- Cruz Azul – Leagues Cup group stage
You honestly could not have scripted a better debut for Messi in Miami’s Leagues Cup group stage match against Liga MX side Cruz Azul. After coming off the bench in the second half, Messi stepped up in the dying moments to bag a last-minute free kick that was just the beginning of Miami’s journey in last summer’s Leagues Cup.
