Report: Barcelona Target Has Requested Permanent Transfer From Man City In The Summer

Barcelona’s interest in Manchester City and Argentina forward Julian Alvarez is out there in the open. As reported before, the Blaugrana are one of the several teams who have enquired about the availability of the 23-year-old.

A lot has been said about Alvarez in recent times, including the fact that Barcelona are, in fact, exploring a loan move beyond June, but if a recent report from El Chiringuito TV is to be believed, the player has asked Man City to sell him altogether in the summer as he does not wish to play second-fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Alvarez signed for Manchester City in January 2022 but only arrived at the Etihad in July. Signing a five-and-a-half-year contract, the 23-year-old has largely struggled for regular first-team football in England.

It’s not to say that the forward is putting on a bad show. On the contrary, the former River Plate man has scored five goals in the Premier League and also has two goals in the UEFA Champions League, taking his tally to 10 goals across all competitions.

At 23 years of age, however, it’s understandable that the player wants to be a regular fixture for his side. As it turns out, Haaland’s presence is making life difficult for the player and in turn, he has reportedly decided to leave City.

Interestingly enough, Barcelona can rescue Alvarez from this situation as they are anyway looking for a forward in the summer. Furthermore, what works in Barça’s favour is that the team shares a great relationship with Manchester City, having previously indulged in a business to sign Ferran Torres.

As for Alvarez, his links with Barcelona are certainly not novel as he was rumoured to be on Barcelona’s agenda back when he broke into River Plate’s first team. Back then, the Blaugrana had no financial muscle to match City’s €22 million offer for the forward.
