Kenya is among 51 football countries that were selected to host the FIFA World Cup trophy during its global tour

The FIFA World Cup trophy has finally landed in Kenya ahead of a two-day tour.

The prestigious silverware touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday, May 26.

According to the Standard, the trophy will be on public display at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre where thousands of football lovers will get a rare chance to take a picture with the souvenir.

However, before then, President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to officially receive the trophy at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday.

President Kenyatta is the only Kenyan who will be allowed to have a feel of the trophy, with FIFA setting strict guidelines on the handling of the medal.

It is understood that the world football governing body allows only a select group of people to hold the trophy including heads of state and former winners.

The World Cup trophy will visit 51 football nations ahead of the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar.

‘Features of the FIFA World Cup trophy

According to ESPN, the original World Cup is property of FIFA and exhibited only during a select few official occasions.

The prestigious 14.5 inches tall silverware is made of 18-carat gold and weighs about 6.142kg.
The trophy features two human figures holding the globe aloft, with its current design dating back to 1974.
