Timo Werner Slams Thomas Tuchel For Unfair Treatment At Chelsea

Timo Werner has slammed Thomas Tuchel for unfair treatment during his time at Chelsea.

The German forward was signed for £45m by the Blues in 2022, but failed to really impress at Stamford Bridge before his cut-price move back to former club RB Leipzig.

Werner managed just 23 goals in 89 games in all competitions during his spell at the club – a tally which included just four Premier League goals during his second and final season.

Speaking to The Sun ahead of RB Leipzig’s clash with Premier League club Manchester City, Werner has seemingly pointed the finger at then-Chelsea manager Tuchel for his lack of form and opportunity for gametime at the Blues.

“I had a very good first six months at Chelsea, which was what the supporters and club expected of me. scored the goals and played good games,” he said.

“When you come from the kind of success I had in Germany or with Chelsea – playing nearly every game in the first season, winning the Champions League in 2021, scoring in the semi-final against Real Madrid, making a lot of goals. Then all this gets a little bit forgotten by the manager, it was not really fair.

“That was also a reason I had to move back to Leipzig, to get the enjoyment again. I didn’t feel that any more but you need it to be successful.

“In the end a manager likes some players more than others – it’s completely normal and you have to accept that.”

Werner also went to on to say that he had joined Chelsea because of manager Frank Lampard, who was later sacked and replaced by Tuchel: “The manager who brought me in, Lampard, was sacked a few months later which was not the best for a player who joined the club after talking to this manager.”
