Todd Boehly Confronted By Chelsea Fans Following Brighton Defeat

Chelsea supporters let their angry feelings known towards co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly at the end of Saturday’s loss to Brighton.

The Blues were battered by the Seagulls at Stamford Bridge, and though the scoreline was only 2-1 in favour of the visitors, Frank Lampard’s men were clearly second-best throughout.

Brighton ended the game with 57% possession and having wracked up 2.94 expected goals compared to Chelsea’s 0.54, while the hosts’ opener came courtesy of a huge deflection off of Lewis Dunk.

Goals from Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso eventually saw Roberto De Zerbi’s side turn the game around and leave west London as deserved winners.

And tensions seemed to reach boiling point in the home end when Boehly was pictured arguing with Chelsea fans at full-time following their latest defeat.

Why is Todd Boehly unpopular with Chelsea fans?

Boehly’s tenure so far at Chelsea has been underlined by his record-spending on a large crop of players, leaving the first-team squad bloated and in desperate need of trimming – recent reports have suggested that some of their Cobham training facilities are too small to house everyone on the playing staff.

The American also made the strange decision to sack Champions League-winning coach Thomas Tuchel and replace him with Graham Potter, only to dismiss the ex-Brighton boss recently and re-hire Lampard as a caretaker.

He drew further criticism on Wednesday when he predicted that underdogs Chelsea would beat Real Madrid 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The Blues lost 2-0 and Boehly became infamous in the Spanish media.

Los Blancos visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday looking to see out the victory, with Chelsea in need of a minor miracle to overturn such a deficit against the reigning champions.
