Tottenham Want Ruben Amorim If They Miss Out On Julian Nagelsmann

Tottenham Hotspur will consider going for Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim if they fail to land Julian Nagelsmann, reports The Times.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants the former Bayern Munich manager to succeed Antonio Conte.

However, it will cost around £15 million per year to hire the 35-year-old – similar to what the Italian earned.

He is also used to working under a sporting director, and Tottenham do not have one following Fabio Paratici’s resignation.

Spurs are weighing up other options and have made initial contact with Amorim.

The 38-year-old is open to taking the job in the summer, but they may need to pay his £18m release clause.

The Portuguese signed a new deal with the Primeira Liga club in November.

Amorim seems perfect for Tottenham as he also deploys a three-man defence and wing-backs.

He came out tops against them in this season’s Champions League group stage, picking up four points.

His side knocked Arsenal out in the Europa League round of 16 before Juventus narrowly pipped them to a spot in the semi-finals.

The former Braga boss has won three Portuguese League Cups, one league title and a Portuguese Super Cup since becoming a manager.

However, whether he has what it takes to help Spurs win a first trophy since 2008 remains to be seen.

The Lilywhites also have Feyenoord’s Arne Slot and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso on their radar.

They have failed to get their managerial decisions right since sacking Mauricio Pochettino and cannot afford to keep repeating the same mistakes.
