Reporters at Orlando Stadium demanded to hear from Broos though as Mkhalele was left floundering.

MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA REFUSED TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS OF ASSISTANT

Percy Tau, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, and Lyle Foster, a trio based overseas, began in attack for Bafana. Hugo Broos’ starting lineup also included six Mamelodi Sundowns players.

In the early going, Liberia threatened, but as the contest heated up, the hosts were given a penalty after goalkeeper Tommy Songo pulled Tau down in the box with a dangerous challenge 11 minutes into the contest. Foster accepted the penalty kick duty and calmly finished into the bottom corner to give Hugo Broos’ troops the lead.

Foster soon doubled Bafana’s lead on minute 22 with a looping header at the near post after a corner by Teboho Mokoena as Bafana gathered momentum.

With a free kick that took a tiny deflection at the near post and fooled Williams on 68 minutes, Tonia Tisdell gave the Lone Stars hope that they may still take something from the match.

Mohammed Sangare’s rocket from outside the box in stoppage time gave Williams no chance and earned Liberia their first point in the Afcon qualifying campaign.
