Simiso Buthelezi appeared to have lost consciousness during his WBF African lightweight title fight against Siphesihle Mntungwa

A video clip shows the moment the WBF African lightweight title fight between Simiso Buthelezi and Siphesihle Mntungwa ended in a bizarre manner.

It was gathered that Buthelezi was winning the bout as he already forced his opponent to the ropes in the 10th round before everything changed.

Buthelezi received a heavy jab to his chin and then fell, while his opponent also slumped by the ropes before the former seemed to have lost his bearings.

Instead of facing his opponent, Buthelezi made his way toward the referee and appeared not to understand his current situation.

He was faced with an empty corner before swinging punches into the thing air, forcing the referee to immediately stop the fight.

talkSPORT reports that the bout was awarded to Mntungwa who should have lost the tie if not for the unfortunate situation. Mntungwa ran across the ring and mimicked Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo‘s ‘Siuuu’ celebration as he stretched his boxing record to 7-1-2.

A decision was eventually reached not to hold the belt ceremony by the WBF as there were concerns over the health situation of Buthelezi after he suffered one of the more bizarre defeats in the history of the sport.

According to boxing enthusiast Tim Boxeo, Buthelezi is in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment at a hospital. He shared a clip of the incident and added the caption…

“Sources share that Simiso Buthelezi is currently in stable condition in South Africa and in the next few days more will be learned as to what could have potentially caused a very scary and odd response in the ring.”
