Alan Hutton Urges Manchester United To Sell Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial has not been available enough this season and you can’t blame people for losing patience with the French forward.

I recall the conversations that were had about Anthony Martial during pre-season tour. Reds were telling themselves: ‘Right, he has one more chance this season, hopefully we see Martial fulfil his potential.’

Nobody can say Martial hasn’t demonstrated his incredible ability on occasion, but he has never been able to perform consistently and it feels like time could be running out. Injuries have not helped his cause either, especially this season when Erik ten Hag has been clear about being a fan of the former AS Monaco star.

From 14 appearances this season, Martial has six goals which isn’t a bad return. It’s just a shame he has struggled with his fitness and can’t seem to get a break.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa player Alan Hutton was asked about Martial and whether United should look to sell the forward this summer.

Writing to Football Insider, Hutton urged Ten Hag to get rid of Martial to allow United utilise new forwards.

“I think that [selling Martial and landing a replacement] is what Ten Hag will be going for in the summer,” said Hutton.

“They have not overly spent in this window so a number nine would definitely be a missing piece to the puzzle.

“Martial has been there a long time, I know they have spent a lot of money on him and we have seen in flashes how good he can be. But, is he going to be that go-to guy that is going to score you all the goals that you need? I do not think so.

“It is probably around that time now where he needs to move on and play regular football.

“Man United seem to be going in a different direction, they are playing a different type of football. It would not surprise me if there was a bit of a clear-out in the summer.”
