Ancelotti Reveals Key Reason Why Real Madrid Lost 4-0 To Barcelona Last Season
After a forgettable set of results against Real Madrid, Barcelona, under the leadership of Xavi Hernandez, appears to have put their woeful record behind them.
It all started with a resounding 4-0 victory over Real Madrid about a year ago, with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres ensuring the Catalan’s dominance. Even though Barça missed out on the league title, the result was quite significant for the team.
Now, as the two sides take on each other this coming weekend, Real Madrid’s 4-0 loss appears to have come to focus once again, after Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner revealed the thoughts of Carlo Ancelotti after the result.
“I asked Ancelotti about their 4-0 loss to Barça. He said ‘Karim [Benzema] was out, we had no chance’,” Glasner said.
While the Eintracht boss’ comments came out of the blue, it appears Ancelotti had credited Barcelona’s 4-0 over the sense of Benzema, who was suffering from an injury at that time. It forced the Real Madrid boss to rely on the services of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
However, both the Brazilians failed to make the desired impact and were contained extremely well by the Barcelona backline led by Gerard Pique and Araujo. The latter, in particular, masterfully contained Vinicius and their rivalry has become quite a thing in La Liga lately.
Nevertheless, this time around, Real Madrid are set to have Benzema back available and ready to start against Barcelona.
The Frenchman has had his fair share of issues with injuries and has reportedly seen a dip in his training levels this season. But what matters is that he will be available to spearhead Los Blancos attack this weekend, potentially giving Barcelona defenders a lot to worry about.
