Arsenal Ahead Of Newcastle In Race For Bayer Leverkusen Winger Moussa Diaby
As part of L’Équipe’s round-up of the transfer sagas expected to surround French national team players this summer, the French daily includes an update on the situation of 23-year-old winger Moussa Diaby.
The Bayer Leverkusen-owned, PSG academy product is currently under contract with the Bundesliga side until June 2025.
Premier League side Newcastle United, who this season qualified for the Champions League, have been targeting the player for 18 months, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News, and he remains a priority target for the Magpies during this window.
The challenge for NUFC is that they have never been a priority for Diaby, despite the Magpies’ desire to make him a central figure in their new project for the next half decade.
As a result, Newcastle have in recent weeks slipped behind Arsenal in terms of winning Diaby’s favour in recent weeks, according to the L’Équipe report.
RMC Sport add that Arsenal made a concrete offer to sign Diaby on the final day of the 2022 summer transfer window.
