Athletic Club Duo Set To Miss La Liga Clash Against Barcelona
Following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Valencia and Real Madrid’s draw against Real Betis, Barcelona are now nine points clear at the top of the La Liga table.
The Catalans have a mighty advantage heading into the business end of the campaign and will be gunning to build on it later this week when they lock horns with Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club at San Mames.
Barça will likely go into the game without a few important players – Ousmane Dembele, Pedri and Robert Lewandowski – all yet to be cleared for return from injury.
In addition, Ronald Araujo will also miss the game after being sent off against Valencia last evening.
However, at the same time, Athletic Club also have some pressing issues on their hand heading into the weekend’s clash against Barcelona.
The Basque outfit will have to make do without Inigo Lekue and Oihan Sancet for the clash against the La Liga leaders next week.
Lekue picked up a muscle injury during Athletic’s game against Rayo Vallecano this weekend and had to be subbed off in the second period. He is expected to be out of the match, as per DEPREDICT.
Meanwhile, Valverde will also be unable to call upon Sancet after he was shown a red card in stoppage time for a rash challenge on an opposition player.
The duo is now certain to miss the game versus Barcelona. However, that is not the entire extent of Athletic’s injury problems as Jon Morcillo and Ander Herrera are also out on the sidelines.
Yeray Alvarez, who missed the Vallecano game due to suspension, is also dealing muscular discomfort and is a doubt, while Valverde is waiting on his goalkeeper Unai Simon to recover fully from the Achilles tendon problem he picked up against Girona.
