FC Barcelona will have the opportunity to sign Bernardo Silva in the coming summer if they can conjure up a lucrative offer for the Manchester City superstar.
This is because the Premier League giants are open to sanctioning the sale of Silva at the end of the season. The club are aware of the player’s uncertainties when it comes to continuing his career at the Etihad and know he is open to other options.
Silva is primarily favouring a move to FC Barcelona despite being courted by a host of other top clubs across Europe. Barça, therefore, are in a position to sign the player next season.
Man City coach Pep Guardiola has repeatedly mentioned that he only wants players who are keen on becoming a part of his project. As such, he will not stand in the way of players that want to leave Etihad. It was evident with the loan departure of Joao Cancelo to Bayern.
However, Barcelona face immense difficulty in the pursuit of Bernardo Silva this coming summer. This is because Man City value the playmaker at a whopping €80 million, which is quite unrealistic for Barça, given their current economic state.
The Catalans have been already asked to reduce €200 million from their salary mass if they are to avoid the sanctions from Financial Fair Play. They are even having difficulties registering a few of the players in the first team, with La Liga recently raising objections against the registration of Gavi.
With that in mind, it is almost inconceivable for Barcelona to afford Bernardo Silva unless the club manage to get rid of multiple star players.
Raphinha, who has had an inconsistent debut season at Camp Nou thus far, is a target for Newcastle United, while Franck Kessie is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Whether Barcelona proceed with the sales of any of these players or offload different stars in order to pursue Silva’s signing will be interesting to seen.
