Barcelona Coaching Staff Values Eric Garcia Very Highly Amid Exit Links
With Barcelona needing to make player sales in the summer in order to balance their books and achieve Financial Fair Play margin, several stars have been linked with exits from Spotify Camp Nou.
Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo reported that the aim of the Blaugrana is to generate €100 million from player sales, with five first-team stars – Eric Garcia, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, Ansu Fati, and Ferran Torres – said to be on the chopping blocks.
However, amidst the circulating rumours, Javi Miguel of AS is reporting that the Barcelona coaching staff values the exit-linked Eric Garcia very highly, casting doubts over whether the defender will be sold or not in the summer.
Garcia arrived at Barcelona in 2021 but has been unable to nail down a starting berth during his time at Spotify Camp Nou.
The 22-year-old youngster had pretty much fallen out of favour this season, with game-time not forthcoming at all until recent games. The injury to Andreas Christensen has opened up a window for the Spaniard to get some minutes on the field under Xavi.
Barcelona were understood to be contemplating his sale in the summer, but recent reports suggested that they had decided to count on him next season, especially because of the fact that he could provide the staff an added option in the pivot midfield position.
Indeed, Xavi tried Garcia as a pivot midfielder during the La Liga clash against Elche earlier this month and the ex-Manchester City ace impressed. It was reported that he had shown enough in the new position to convince the staff to give him an extended run.
But with the need for player sales to raise income, his continuity has once again been thrown into the unknown even though the coaching staff is understood to value him very highly.
The fact that he arrived for free in 2021 means that any fees that Barcelona get from his sale can be counted as net profit in the books. That makes Garcia an even more appealing candidate for a departure. So, only time will tell how things pan out for the Spaniard.
