It is more than evident that in order to accommodate new signings, Barcelona will have to give away one or two heavyweights from the current lot of players. And one of the players who is touted by the media to be the casualty is the summer signing Andreas Christensen.
The former Chelsea defender has made quite an impact ever since arriving from Stamford Bridge last year. After having made the centre-back spot his own, the Denmark international has grown leaps and bounds at his new club.
However, as Barcelona continue to assess options in order to comply with the Financial FairPlay as well as La Liga’s salary limit, there is a slight chance that they might have to give away the big Dane in the summer.
Before that, though, journalist Gerard Romero (h/t BarçaTimes) says Barcelona will keep at least three or four options ahead of the 27-year-old when it comes to departures.
For the moment, while there are no strong speculations, Serie A side Inter have suddenly emerged as one plausible destination. Reports in Spain claim that now they are set to lose Milan Skriniar, they are on the hunt to sign a replacement and it is possible that they might come after either Marcos Alonso or Christensen.
As far as incomings are concerned, Inigo Martinez is expected to become a Barça player, meaning that the team will have as many as five centre-backs for the next season. This includes Christensen himself, Ronald Araujo, Joules Kounde and Eric Garica.
Considering the lot, there are high chances that one might be sacrificed. Now, Garica’s future has been thrown into question on numerous occasions, but as reported before, the former Manchester City defender is highly valued by the coaching staff given his versatility. This leaves Christensen as the only viable casualty.
But as Romero reports, before sanctioning his departure, the team will study at least three or four options.
