Barcelona Hoping To Pocket €10 Million From The Departure Of Tottenham Target
The Barcelona management is working closely to close all potential departures as soon as possible, especially of those who were on loan last season. In this regard, a certain Clement Lenglet seems to be on the top of the agenda.
The Frenchman, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, played 35 games for the London-based team.
Given the fact that the 28-year-old does not have a place in the Barcelona squad, a return to the Premier League is highly anticipated, with Tottenham working on re-signing him.
The Blaugrana’s intention here is to inject financial stability from his transfer and if a report from SPORT is to be believed, Barça hope that the move generates around €10 million in transfer fee.
Tottenham understand that Barcelona are in desperate need to offload members from their roster. Add to it Lenglet’s current stature at the club is an added motivation for the London club to lower the transfer fee.
It is believed that Barcelona first demanded €15 million for the Frenchman, but the counteroffer from Tottenham was about €5 million. Right now, the board, led by Joan Laporta, is feeling optimistic about the fact that a deal can be worked out for around €10 million.
For the moment, nothing related to Lenglet is concrete apart from the fact that Barcelona will indeed sell him.
Barça spent in excess of €35 million to sign Lenglet from Sevilla back in 2018. Considering his high wages, the Catalans are intent on getting rid of the Frenchman as soon as possible as they wish to reduce their salary mass.
So, it is really imperative for Barcelona to work things out with Tottenham for Lenglet’s transfer considering the fact that they are already looking at other options, one of which is Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen.
