Barcelona Injury Update: Sergi Roberto Available For The Upcoming Game Against Espanyol
Barcelona were dealt with a fresh blow this week after Sergio Busquets announced his decision to quit the club at the end of the season.
While Busquets will be available at Xavi’s disposal during the remainder of the campaign, the Barcelona coach has missed out on the services of another veteran in the form of Sergi Roberto.
After picking up a hamstring injury against Getafe last month, the veteran has missed four consecutive league matches, including the 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
However, Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Roberto’s fitness, suggesting the versatile star could be available in the upcoming game against Espanyol.
Roberto has received a green light from the team doctors after he successfully completed his recovery. He is in contention to be included in the squad against Espanyol, and perhaps even make an appearance in the Catalan derby.
After spending on the sidelines for almost a month, Roberto’s return will be a welcome sight for Xavi. Roberto was the only Barcelona star suffering from injury, and his return means Xavi will have the luxury of having all of his star players fit for the Espanyol tie.
The Spaniard also comes back at a time when Barcelona are just a win away from securing the league title.
The Catalans hold an astonishing 13-point lead at the top of the table, meaning collecting three points at the RCDE stadium will be enough to leapfrog second-placed Atletico Madrid.
With Busquets leaving the club in the summer, Roberto will have a greater responsibility of leading the team. He will, therefore, look to end the campaign on a positive note and set an example for other players in the team.
