Barcelona Lamine Yamal Reacts After Historic Spain Debut
- Barcelona Prodigy Lamine Yamal Reacts Afetr Historic Spain Debut “Living A Dream”.
The past few months have been absolutely sensational for Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal.
Having enjoyed a strong pre-season on the US tour, the 16-year-old La Masia prodigy has become a regular starter for Xavi at Barça despite his tender age.
As a reward for his good form with the Catalans, Yamal was called up to the Spain national team by manager Luis de la Fuente recently.
Yamal making history
The call-up led to the teenager’s debut last night in the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers against Georgia.
And when he came on to replace Dani Olmo in the 44th minute of the game, Yamal became the youngest player to play for Spain, breaking the record held by his club teammate Gavi.
Yamal would not stop at that as the 16-year-old prodigy marked his debut with a golazo against Georgia, in the process becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer for La Roja.
The La Masia wonderkid also broke Gareth Bale’s record and became the youngest player to score in the European Championship qualifiers
Living the dream
Yamal interacted with the media after his historic debut for Spain and stated that he felt like he was living a dream.
“I’m living a dream right now, I’m very happy and I thank my team-mates and the coach for giving me confidence, and everyone who has helped me along the way,” said the young Barça star on Teledeporte (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Yamal was eligible to play for Morocco and Spain on the international stage and even though the former made a push to tempt him to represent them, the 16-year-old chose La Roja.
“I’m very satisfied with my decision and very happy. It’s going to be a long road with Spain and I hope we win a lot of things together,” he said about his decision.
Just 16 years old, Yamal admitted that he feels the age difference compared to his opponents, but claimed that his teammates make it easy for him, saying:
“With the opponents, you notice the difference, but also the passes of my teammates are at a very high level and that helps a lot.”
