Barcelona Planning A Post-Season Friendly In Australia Or Asia To Generate Income
Barcelona have been forced to generate income in a very short period of time this season. Thanks to an ever-rising wage bill coupled with the elimination from the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League, the finances have taken a great hit.
To tackle the troubles, the management is looking to explore all possible avenues to generate income and if a report from Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo is to be believed, they are already planning to play a friendly in either Australia or the Asian subcontinent at the end of the season.
Barça travelled to Australia right after the last season and played a friendly against the A-League All Stars team. For that, they received €5 million.
The Blaugrana are expecting to gather more capital than they did last year given that they can play the opposition as current League and even Cup champions.
This will not be a part of the pre-season tour, for which the players will travel to the United States.
This year, the management is pondering the option of either continuing with the same plan as last year or will look to explore the possibility of playing in countries like Japan or China in Asia. These Asian countries have recently opened their borders since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For now, the only thing that is certain is that the pre-season tour of the United States will go as planned. At the same time, elimination from European football also presents Barcelona with an opportunity to play a few friendlies in closer destinations during the final stretch of the season.
