Barcelona Still €5-10 Million Short To Register Gavi’s New Contract
The first-team registration of Gavi has been a major concern for Barcelona. After having renewed his contract in September last year, the Catalans were not in a position to register it with La Liga due to the lack of Fair Play margin.
But, following Memphis Depay’s exit in January, Barcelona tried to take care of the matter only to be rejected by the league. Ultimately, though, thanks to a precautionary measure from the court, Gavi was registered as a first-team player and given the No. 6 jersey.
However, in March, the court overturned its ruling which meant the 18-year-old is now back to his youth contract. And if his new contract is not registered before July 1, there is a clause in his deal that would allow him to leave for free.
Now, it is known that Gavi has no desire to leave the club, and as such Barcelona are relaxed about his future. But, the registration process still needs to be taken care of at the earliest possible opportunity.
And, according to the latest report from RAC1, in the most recent meeting between Barcelona and La Liga, the situation of Gavi’s contract registration was also discussed apart from the Financial Fair Play matters.
The report goes on to add that Barça are currently short of around €5-10 million in their salary margin in order to complete the registration of Gavi.
So, in essence, the club need to generate a space of around €5-10 million on their salary bill for them to be able to register the 18-year-old’s new contract and officially hand him a first-team number.
Heading into the summer, it is being claimed that Barcelona’s utmost priority will be take care of the contract registrations of Gavi and Ronald Araujo, as well as Alejandro Balde, who is set to sign a renewal imminently.
