Barcelona To Meet With Tottenham To Discuss The Transfer Of €12 Million-Rated Defender
On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur officially announced that Clement Lenglet will be returning to FC Barcelona after the completion of his loan spell.
The Frenchman spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan with the north London outfit and enjoyed a fairly solid season, racking up over 30 appearances and even directly contributing to three goals.
There had been talks between the two clubs about a possible permanent transfer for Lenglet from Barcelona to Tottenham. But the announcement from the Lilywhites about his imminent return to Catalonia cast doubts over such a move.
However, as per the latest update from Toni Juanmarti, Tottenham have not totally abandoned plans to sign Lenglet permanently. In fact, the Lilywhites are set to meet with Barcelona imminently to discuss the transfer of the French international.
The report states that the La Liga champions are hoping to receive a transfer fee in excess of €10-12 million for Lenglet, whose current market value stands at €12 million.
It is claimed that Spurs and Lenglet are very happy with each other, which would indicate that both parties would be open to rejoining hands again following the termination of the loan agreement.
However, Tottenham are not willing to offer that figure and are trying to squeeze Barcelona knowing their desperation to make urgent sales in the coming weeks.
So, it remains to be seen how the discussions between the two parties progress in the coming weeks. Much could also depend on Lenglet’s wage demands as he is reluctant to compromise on his salary.
The Frenchman was on wages worth around €12 million per year last season, of which €7 million were covered by Tottenham. Whether the Londoners would be willing to match his total salary could also hold the key for a transfer.
