Barcelona Using Gundogan Announcement As A Message To Convince Brozovic: “We Are Serious”
Despite their chances of signing Marcelo Brozovic growing slim, Barcelona are not averse to making some last-minute efforts to try and convince the Inter Milan star to snub a move to Saudi Arabia in favour of a transfer to Catalonia.
On Sunday, reports emerged claiming that Inter Milan and Al Nassr had reached an agreement over a €23 million transfer for the midfielder. And the Saudi Arabian giants had tabled a lucrative €20 million per year deal for three seasons to the player.
It was also said that Al Nassr were hoping to close the operation today and there was confidence from the club and the player’s side that the deal will progress.
However, with Brozovic yet to formally greenlight the operation, the door is not entirely closed for Barcelona and they are now planning to make a last-ditch attempt to convince the 30-year-old to join them.
According to Javi Miguel of AS, Barcelona wish to use the announcement of Ilkay Gundogan’s signing as a message to Brozovic that they mean business heading into the new season and are serious about signing him.
The Blaugrana announced the official capture of Gundogan on a free transfer earlier today. The 32-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club with an option for an additional twelve months, right after leading Manchester City to a treble in the last season.
And, Barça wish to use the signing of Gundogan as a statement and a message to turn Brozovic’s head and lure him to La Liga instead of the Saudi Arabian league.
The message that the La Liga champions wish to send the Croatian international from the German’s signing is something along the lines of: “We are serious and we will be able to sign you up.”
Having signed a top player like Gundogan, right after he achieved huge success with Manchester City, indicates the direction in which Barcelona are headed and the prestige and aura that they carry.
And the Blaugrana hope to sell Brozovic on those ideas and stop him from moving to Saudi Arabia and fill in the void left by Sergio Busquets. Only time will tell whether their efforts reap rewards or not.
