Barcelona Will Announce Their New Sleeve Sponsor Today
After a series of negotiations, it appears Barcelona are finally in a position to officiate their new shirt sleeve sponsor.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to announce their sleeve sponsor today. Ambilight TV, a product of Phillips, will be the name of the sponsor.
Barça and Phillips had been in negotiations for a while now and they have reached a five-year agreement. Initially, the deal is going to last three years, with an option to extend the deal for two more years. The reason for such an arrangement is that the last two years will be outside of Joan Laporta’s tenure as the Barcelona president.
The two parties, therefore, would have to seek another approval in order to extend the deal. Nevertheless, the payment scheme is quite comprehensive for Barcelona, with Phillips set to pay €8 million in the first year.
It will go up to €10 million in the second, €12 million in the third and the fourth and €14 million for the fifth year. Barcelona, therefore, could earn a revenue of more than €50 million across a five-year period, excluding additional title bonuses which could go up to €1 million.
Barcelona’s idea is to announce the sleeve sponsor today, present it at Camp Nou tomorrow and wear the newly-designed logo against Mallorca on Saturday, in what will be the final game at Camp Nou for the Blaugrana before they shift to Montjuic Stadium next season.
Apart from the sleeve sponsor, Barcelona are also set to announce Deco as the new sporting director. The Brazilian is set to replace Jordi Cruyff and act as the right-hand man of Mateu Alemany. Barcelona may also announce another sponsor, in what could serve as a real boost to the club’s economy.
