Barcelona Will Have To Pay €6 Million To Sign Fabricio Diaz, Personal Terms Not An Issue

Barcelona have laid down all the groundwork over the personal terms for Liverpool Montevideo midfielder Fabricio Diaz, reports Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo. However, they are yet to agree a fee for his signing with the Uruguayan outfit.

Fabricio Diaz, 20, has been identified as a possible solution to the defensive midfield position at Barcelona heading into the summer. The Uruguayan midfielder has been making waves with his performances for Liverpool Montevideo as well as the Uruguayan youth national teams.

Diaz was one of the standout performers at the South American Under-20 Championships earlier this year and will have eyes on him at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup coming up later this month.

Given that there is a real possibility of his stock rising post the tournament, Barcelona are hoping to close his signing at the earliest possible.

The Blaugrana had met with the 20-year-old’s agent at the club offices last month. And as per the report, personal terms will not be an issue as the foundations for that have been laid out during talks with his representative.

Now, an agreement with Liverpool Montevideo is pending, with the Uruguayan club holding out for a fee of €6 million. They have turned down offers of €4 million previously from clubs like River Plate and Flamengo and remain firm on their stance.

Diaz, for his part, is keen on a move to Europe even though he has offers to continue in South America.

Barcelona plan to sign and send the 20-year-old to play for the reserve team although he would be in the first-team dynamics. And making an impression during training sessions could earn him opportunities under Xavi Hernandez.

However, for now, there is still no agreement between Barça and Liverpool Montevideo, who continue to demand €6 million for the midfield prodigy. If the deal is not finalised over the next couple of weeks, the Blaugrana could risk seeing his asking price rise if he does well at the Under-20 World Cup.
