Barcelona Will Sell Franck Kessie For €30 Million, Have Already Received A ‘Firm Offer’
As Barcelona look to find ways to resolve their Financial Fair Play problems, it is become abundantly clear that player sales will be important for the club to achieve their objectives.
While several names have been linked with an exit, one player whose departure is starting to look guaranteed is Franck Kessie.
Indeed, only recently, reports suggested that manager Xavi Hernandez had given the green light for his sale.
Now, Javi Miguel of AS is reporting that Kessie’s departure is seen as very feasible by Barcelona. Given that the midfielder joined the club last summer for free, any fee generated from his sale would be written down as net income in the books.
On top of that, Kessie has many admirers back in Italy, where he helped AC Milan win the Serie A title last season.
In fact, Inter Milan, who have been eyeing a move for the Ivorian since January, remain interested and have even tabled a ‘firm offer’ for his services.
Nothing is finalised at this moment, though, as the Nerazzurri are looking to offer players in exchange for Kessie. However, Barça are looking for a cash-only deal. The Blaugrana believe that they can rake in at least €30 million from selling the 26-year-old midfielder.
The report further adds that Xavi Hernandez will meet with Kessie once the La Liga title is won to inform him about the decision. The manager would explain to the Ivorian that the decision is purely due to the club’s dire FFP situation and not motivated by sporting reasons.
Since joining the club in the summer, Kessie has played 39 times in all competitions, scoring and assisting three goals apiece. However, only 14 of those appearances have been starts, with just five coming in La Liga. And with the club looking to add Ilkay Gundogan, Kessie’s minutes would take a further hit.
With Xavi giving his approval for a sale, the Ivorian could be on his way out in the summer, with a move back to Italy on the horizon.
