With the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona in the summer growing with each passing day, Gerard Romero has come up with a fresh update on the operation.
As per the journalist, Barcelona are working with some important sponsors to finance the return of the Argentina captain in the summer.
Messi’s contract with PSG runs out at the end of the season and it is starting to look like he will not be renewing his deal in Paris. Firstly, the Parisian giants wish for him to lower his salary, which does not seem like happening.
On top of that, the 35-year-old continues to be whistled and booed by PSG fans which is bound to have an influence on his decision.
Amidst this, reports suggest that Barcelona are already pushing to sign Messi and are studying all possible ways to make the operation come to fruition without harming the club’s position financially.
At the same time, the Catalans need to be mindful of the FFP issues as well.
Hence, as per the report, they are now working with important sponsors to help fund the comeback of their former captain. This approach opens the doors for investors who want Messi to return to Camp Nou.
Romero adds that there is optimism from both Barcelona and Messi’s side about the operation going through.
Should he come back, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will be given a contract with a low salary but with a percentage of sponsorships and commercial profits that his return generates.
It will be interesting to see how things develop as Barcelona continue to look for avenues to make the dream comeback happen.
