Benfica Right-Back Dismisses Barcelona Links: “I’m Madly Happy Here”
Speaking in an interview, SL Benfica defender Alexander Bah has dismissed the rumours linking him with a summer transfer to FC Barcelona.
The 25-year-old right-back signed for the Portuguese giants only last summer, arriving from Slavia Prague. And, he enjoyed a fine debut campaign with Benfica, finishing with a goal and seven assists from 42 appearances across all competitions.
Bah’s solid performances at right-back had seemingly put him on the radars of Barcelona. The Catalans are in the market to reinforce the right-sided full-back position and have been linked with several players.
However, the Dane has dismissed any possible chances of a transfer in the summer as he made it clear that he is very happy at Benfica and is not considering an exit just a year after joining the club.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Bah, whose current market value is €8 million, said: “I haven’t heard anything, it’s probably just rumours. I’m not focused on that either, I’m madly happy at Benfica.
“Besides, I’ve just bought a house and that also shows how happy I am in Lisbon. Will I still be at Benfica next year? Yes,” he further stated.
Looking back at his debut season with the Portuguese giants, Bah added: “This season has exceeded all expectations because we got what we got because of the way we played and because I played a lot. I’m incredibly satisfied. I’m happy, I feel at home and I’m enjoying it.”
With his statements, it seems very clear that Bah is not looking to leave Benfica for Barcelona at this point. The Blaugrana are also staring at the possibility of missing out on the signing of Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda, who is close to signing for Borussia Dortmund.
A loan move for Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo continues to remain high on the Blaugrana’s agenda. But the Cityzens’ desire to offload him permanently could become a major hurdle.
