Borussia Dortmund Express Interest In Chelsea Star Conor Gallagher
Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Chelsea star Conor Gallagher
Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher after losing Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
As per the Daily Mail, (h/t Metro) the German giants have asked about the England international’s availability despite Mauricio Pochettino wanting to keep him. It now remains to be seen if Chelsea will entertain offers for the Cobham graduate.
The 23-year-old has been rumoured to make his Chelsea exit in the summer window. The Blues will need to reduce their roster following a season of wholesale recruitment.
Gallagher barely had game time under Thomas Tuchel, but with the arrival of Graham Potter, he saw a few minutes on the pitch. The 23-year-old wants to fight for his place, but the Blues could sell him to balance the wage bill.
Besides Dortmund, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brighton are also interested, but there have been no progressive talks as of now.
Many Chelsea stars have now left the club, with Kai Havertz on the verge of joining Arsenal, while Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly are heading to Saudi clubs. Blues’ academy graduate Mason Mount is also now leaning towards Chelsea’s rival club, Manchester United.
Beginning on July 1, Mauricio Pochettino is anticipated to take over as the Blues’ manager. He will attempt to get his team organised before the season begins.
For young players, Dortmund are a superb club. Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho, and Robert Lewandowski were all developed there, and Gallagher, who is only 23 years old, has the potential to become an explosive midfielder.
He is a good player who presses well and retains the ball, but lacks technical proficiency, which is the most crucial quality for a midfielder. At Dortmund, however, he will be in a less competitive league and won’t be under as much pressure and could develop organically without the spotlight.
Or, if the Argentine manager wants to keep him, he can choose to remain at Chelsea. If the Blues are successful in bringing in new midfielders, it might be difficult for the 23-year-old to gain significant playing time.
