Cadiz Manager Praise On Xavi And Barcelona Ahead Of La Liga Clash: “GREAT TEAM”
Barcelona will be aiming to make it 18 games unbeaten in a row across all competitions when they lock horns with Cadiz in La Liga on Sunday.
The Blaugrana are currently sitting atop the La Liga standings, with an eight-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid. They were on an 11-game winning run which came to a halt on Thursday as Xavi’s side played out a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Europa League.
Barcelona will thus be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Sunday to get some momentum going before the reverse fixture against United.
Ahead of the match, Cadiz manager Sergio Gonzalez lavished praise on his Barcelona counterpart Xavi and the job he is doing at Barcelona currently.
“They are a great team. They are showing it with that consistency that they didn’t have before. Xavi is doing a very good job and Barça are becoming a very strong team, especially in the league. They are a team with an enormous capacity to subdue others,” Sergio said
The Cadiz manager further insisted that he and his team were looking forward to the challenge of playing at Camp Nou and hoped to cause an upset on Sunday, saying:
“Both Barça and Madrid lose a maximum of five games at home and let’s see if ours can be one of them. It’s a very nice stage and it’s a challenge. We’ll go there without any nerves, knowing that we’re going to suffer but also knowing that we can make them suffer.”
Sergio opens up on Pedri’s injury
Barcelona will be facing Cadiz without one of their most important players in Pedri. The 20-year-old suffered a thigh injury against Manchester United on Thursday and will be out of action for close to four weeks.
And Sergio Gonzalez spoke up on Pedri’s injury setback, saying that the Spaniard’s absence could affect Barcelona’s ball retention on Sunday.
“Pedri’s absence could mean that they have less of the ball than they usually do. He is a key player in terms of understanding their game, although they also have others. But for the way they play, Pedri features strongly and he was also scoring goals,” he said.
“It’s an important absence that takes something away, but they’re still going to be a team who are very clear about how they want to play.”
Real Madrid will face Osasuna tomorrow, so they can reduce the gap to Barcelona to five points. So, it will be imperative that the Catalans bag a victory against Cadiz come Sunday.
