David Moyes Gives West Ham Injury Update Ahead Of Man United Fixture
David Moyes has provided an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of West Ham’s clash with Manchester United this weekend.
West Ham were without a host of senior names for Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, after Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Nayef Aguerd were all ruled out through illness.
The trio have been suffering with a sickness bug this week, but Moyes confirmed each have returned to training ahead of Sunday’s fixture at the London Stadium. However, Moyes revealed the Hammers have been hit with further complaints of illness this week.
“They’ve been in today. Today was the first day we’ve had the chance to assess them. They’ve done a bit of training and we hope they’ll all be available on Sunday,” Moyes told his pre-match press conference.
“One other player was sent home this morning, and another has said they don’t feel so good, so we have to hope we can contain it.
“It looks as though it’s more like sickness and the players are getting over it quickly.”
Moyes questioned whether West Ham’s difficult schedule had contributed to the absences in his squad. He believes the Hammers and this week’s opponents, Manchester United, have had the most challenging schedules this season as the clubs compete on multiple fronts.
“If you’re fatigued, you’re likely to pick up colds or sickness. I think Manchester United and ourselves have had the most difficult schedules. We’ve had a real difficult schedule. Would I put that down to getting the illness, I don’t know.”
