Dennis worked as a service manager for Great Dane Trailers and later opened Chesterfield Trailer and Hitch shop.
Dennis started this business so that his son would have something to support himself if he couldn’t make it big in racing.
His parents spent all their savings to fund their son’s races. They even put their house on mortgage twice and sold their antique cars to support Denny in pursuing his dream.
After spending about $750k, the Hamlin family were unable to afford any more expense, and Denny started to work at his father’s trailer-and-hitch shop.
His mom, Mary Lou, grew up in a household of six children and always wanted a big family for herself.
Mary was a full-time stay-at-home mother but did her best to support her children’s dreams.
