Edouard Mendy Not In “Any Rush” To Return From Finger Injury
Matt Law’s rather worrying piece in the Telegraph today has some worrying lines, including one about Edouard Mendy.
The goalkeeper had surgery on a broken finger a full two months ago, and hasn’t been seen since. That’s a nasty issue for a goalkeeper, but you’d expect him to be at the very least training with the group by now.
Law notes that the Senegal stopper has turned down at least one contact from Chelsea as he approaches the initial deal he signed when he transferred to us, and that the keeper is “seemingly not been in any rush to return from surgery.”
We had been wondering similar things ourselves. This week club released a short documentary about the goalkeepers and their training, and Mendy was not even mentioned. There’s a sense that, with no contract forthcoming, he’s being written out of the present as well as the future.
Whether the freeze out is coming from him or from the club is less clear.
