- Erik Ten Hag Picked Manchester United Star Out For Special Praise After Burnley Win.
Manchester United are back to winning ways in the Premier League after a hard-fought win over Burnley, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the winner in a close game.
Fernandes scored a stunning first-half volley to secure all three points and the win gives Erik ten Hag crucial breathing room after a highly turbulent start to the season.
Ten Hag made a number of changes from the side that lost to Bayern Munich earlier this week, with Jonny Evans among those to be introduced this weekend.
Evans made his first start for the club since 2015 and the Northern Ireland international rolled back the years with a fine performance.
The experienced centre-back found the back of the net in the first half but his header was ruled out by the VAR but moments later he would assist Fernandes’ showstopping volley.
Evans has now been picked out by Ten Hag for special praise after the game, with the Dutchman admitting his summer signing did everything right over the 90 minutes.
“He (Evans) showed personality. He was calm, composed, did everything right. Very good performance,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports, via the BBC.
Evans’ inclusion was due to the growing list of injuries in United’s backline, with Lisandro Martinez becoming the latest player to pick one up.
Sergio Reguilon, who has impressed in his first three appearances for United, dealt Ten Hag a scare late in the game when he went off clutching his hamstring. Thankfully, the manager has explained why the Spaniard came off.
“Reguilon was ill. It says somehting about his character and spirit. He wanted to play and contribute,” he said.
Raphael Varane has spent the last four weeks on the sidelines but he made his return to the side today, coming on to sure up the defence for the final stretch.
Ten Hag will be welcoming the return of his first-choice centre-back and hopefully, Martinez’s injury is not anything serious.
